Investigator FlyingB reported "CONSUMER SVCS" with the number +15709833796 as Cost trap
These scammers call attempting to make you believe they represent your credit card company. If you ask what company they represent, they list off all the major credit cards. If you ask them any more questions, or ask to be added to their do-not-call list, they become rude and profane. This is, at least in the US, illegal. They are required to honor the national do-not-call registry, as well as give you the opportunity to be added to their own do-not-call list. They are also required to identify themselves. Of course, these scammers do none of this. My advice is to take the time to copy down the number, the name that showed up on your caller ID (if any), and the time the call came in, what was said (and not said, as in their identification) and report it all to the FCC and your state's Attorney General, if you live in the US. Outside of the US, contact your local and national authorities who handle consumer fraud. Do a search and you'll easily find out how to contact these places. Yes, it will take a few minutes of your day, but the only way these scammers will ever get shut down is if enough people like you and me start being vocal about it.
FlyingB replied 8/30/14, 10:58 AMP.S. I wasn't sure what category to use, so I used "Cost trap." If there had been a "credit card fraud" category, that would have been more accurate.Annoyed replied 9/18/14, 2:10 PMMy call was a recorded message about receiving a "free" medical alert system delivered to my home. My guess is I'd have to give my credit card number to pay for shipping. Clearly targeting the elderly.

Annoyed reported Medical Alert with the number 5709833796 as Cost trap
Recorded message to receive a "free" medical alert system delivered to your home. Likely will ask for credit card info for delivery and then run up a bunch of charges before you know it. Clearly a scam targeting the elderly. Other comments for the same number include a scam purportedly to reduce credit card interest so they are running multiple scams from the same number.
