Here is the important info: This number IS A LEGIT number from Google HOWEVER, it can be spoofed by scammers. In my case, I requested a call back from google for verification purposes and I received my code on that number with a phone call, it was totally legit. Regardless, after checking the reports on this site, I checked with Google customer support and in a few days I got my answer. The number IS IN FACT FROM GOOGLE however you should only trust it if you requested a call back or a text. Scammers can spoof ANY NUMBER including this one to get your info. So the bottom line is that if YOU, yourself, requested a call back from google for account verification purposes, you can trust it. If someone calls you from this number and YOU DIDN'T REQUEST IT, then it's a scam

It's not Google! Don't send any code or do what it says. Don't be gullible like some on here or elsewhere thinking it's not a scam. FYI, google is not from Wash. DC, they're corporate is in CA. Just ignore it and block it. Actually I'm letting them ring, leave texts and voice messages to log in the days and times on my phone (for now it's on weekends). After will report to Google and the right authorities to let them handle it to take those doing this down! Then at that time it's hasta la vista baby! ...sigh, I hope.

Google uses this number as of 5/4/20 to send you a code when you change your password as I did.

Good luck in keeping your personal info safe. I bet those are using your info for their means right now, and you will soon if not now are losing your control of it. -

Google voice? That's all well and good but I do not use Google Voice, never enquired about it, don't want it. It seems to me that Google is security cautious enough that they will not be calling people with unsolicited codes.

I think these people hacked my daughters phone, as a few text came from her number explaining that this call was coming and what code to enter. My daughter works for a tech company, making me think this was related to her work. The lingo they used in texting me were terms my daughter would use, so I totally thought it was her. It wasn't until her sister called to tell me the same thing just happened to her, but hers was way more suspicious making her think it was NOT her sister.
Now I'm really worried what they might do with my info.Damnthescam replied 9/15/17, 3:54 PMReceived a text from 518-293-0653 asking me to answer a call and press "48". The call immediately came in, from "202-455-8888". I replied to the text with the FTC's 1-800 number, and then blocked both numbers. -

My friend sent me a text message- while i was with her in person. Her own phone didn't have records of such sent message, so she began to worry her phone was hacked. The next day I received a text from her saying she was going to call me and for me to put in a two-digit code once I answered. I kept forwarding her screenshots of the messages (knowing she wasn't actually sending them to me but giving her a record of the fact that someone is sending texts from access of her own phone number) and the person responded saying it was not a hack, and to type in the verification code. THey called me 6 times in a row and left voicemails each time with the automated message, until she was able to message me back herself saying that it was never her in the first place. She went to verizon but they couldn't offer her any help.

I had a funny feeling about it but did as he asked and then realized the mistake I made. His phone has actually been TURNED OFF all day while he was at work. Now, I wonder what we need to do to disassociate our phones from this number so these people don't access all the private data stored on our phones. ANY IDEAS?? -

I have previously posted about how a scammer used this number with me (was trying to sell furniture on Craigslist, someone texted me and asked to send a cashier's check, I said no thank you, then they texted and said they were going to call me from their bosses landline and to enter a code when I answered the call. I blocked the number). However, I have since discovered that this is the Google Voice legitimate number. It is what is done with it that can be illegitimate. So there are legitimate uses for this number, but unfortunately scammers use it frequently. scammer after craigslist add. Texted me a code and then is calling more than 8 times from this number requesting me to enter the code.
Kev replied 11/25/17, 4:36 PMI was tricked by the scammer from this number again. Can google or some organization that has the capability find out who is doing this illegal stuff and penalize the wrongdoer. -

I received a text from 804-384-0468 verifying the type of work I do and asking if I take credit cards.
I responded and asked him to call me to talk about the work and the address.
He responded 5 days later saying he would call but was a military man and it wasn't always convenient.
I asked the address. He gave an address. I checked it on google. Came up for sale on several sites.
I asked if he lived there or tenants and did he have an agent for me to coordinate with.
He skipped over this and asked when he could call me.
I pushed for a local contact. Said he had none, but trusted I would do the work well.
He texted a 2 digit number to me and said he was calling and the key in the two digits. A computerized call came through form a completely different number (202-455-8888) asking for the 2 digit authorization code to be keyed in.
I did not answer and sent a text to the number asking who was texting me. There was no response. On his (804 number, he texted saying to key in the code so we could talk.
I asked what the code was for. He said it was because he was a military man. I responded saying I am former military as well as friends and family. Never needed a code.
Nothing from him since.
Today, a symbol (I use Facebook Messenger)next to the 202 number showed it was The Cathedral Of Love. I checked the internet. The website looks bogus and is different from the website for Cathedral of Love.
