Unlike most of the posts on this page, I was contacted by this number through a nannying website, Nannyavailable.com.
For about two days, I was emailing and Instant messaging with the mother of a family from Asheville, NC, claiming to be "Loura McRae" (who is a real person in the area, just NOT the person I was communicating with). After sending back a caretaker questionnaire, a photo of myself and corresponding for days via email, I was "hired" by this family to start nannying when they returned from the UK this weekend. She claimed that her mother passed away in the UK, which is why she couldn't talk on the phone.
She claimed she wanted to pay me a weeks worth of work in advance, because her husband was going out of town and he didn't want her to have to deal with the bills. She asked to verify some basic information: telephone number, address, name. Then I received a call from 225 5555. "Loura" left me a voicemail, which I could barely understand. Weird accent. Definitely sent off a red flag.
Anyways did some searching...found the real Loura Mcrae- clearly not the woman in the picture they sent me. I reverse searched the image and sure enough it is some family in California from 5 years ago.
Luckily I caught on before this could go any further.
BEWARE: These scammers actually invest their time with you to earn your trust. Make sure you know who you are REALLY talking to. -

They are identity thieves based in Nigeria and UK. They meet you on dating sites or other online want ads. ie: craigslist. then tell you some sob story (family member dying, sick and out of work, etc) to send them money. They piece by piece try to social engineer who you are, try to obtain online account information and then open bank accounts with your info to conduct illegal wire transfers. They are organized mob criminals, most likely funding terrorists - Boko Haram in Nigeria.

Dating website scam. The guy I met on a dating website was asking me to write a letter to [email protected]. The letter had to state that I am a girlfriend of his and the sole beneficiary. He said his parents are deceased and he has no siblings.

I met this guy, Miguel Raymond, on Datehookup.com. We talked for several months. Said he lived in Seattle but was working in England as Telecommunication engineer. His kids were grown and his wife died 6 yrs ago. Then after about a month he was supposedly chosen to go to Nigeria for a new project... He is the biggest scammer I've ever seen!

I met this guy on a dating site. He told me he needed money for his doughter life saving heart surgery. He even told me things like "my doughter´s life is in your hands"... Oh, what was I supposed to do? I searched info on the internet and found out I was not the only one who got such messages. So be careful!
Halloweenie replied 8/21/14, 1:17 PMasked me to add him to my friends on FB. I asked if I knew him, he replied, yes, I ask back from where, he couldn't remember where. Next thing I knew I get him calling my home phone. I said who are you where did you get my phone number he said FB. I then blocked him from FB. and looked up the number he called from which of course was 225-5555.

Said his wife passed away almost 3 years ago. Two daughters Katie and Jessica that were initially 7 & 10 then got younger 6 & 7. Said he was Cairo then Manchester buying goods to open a store in North Bend, OH. He needed $450 for his daughters for food and to pay teacher for lessons while in Manchester because he could not cash his check until he got back in the state. Met him on match.com. He speaks of love easily and will tell you that you are his angel and dream come true and that he wants to make you happy forever.
