"Julie Smith" called and left a computerized vm. "Urgent, do not disregard". I called back, Julie was not available so I got an Indian guy. The IRS has issued a warrant for my arrest unless I settle a past debt of $6248. The only payment accepted was cash wire transfer from his list of centers. He would stay on the phone with me and guide me through the process. I have IRS issues so they almost got me. Since Indian guy was willing to stay on the phone with me I kept him on hold while I drove to my tax attorney's office. Put my attorney on the phone and they said they would call back. He tells me this is a popular scam lately and that the IRS does not call, they send certified letters. Careful out there.

Electronic message states # belongs to Julie Smith of the IRS, and warns of the urgent need to call back to prevent legal action. This is not the way the IRS contacts taxpayers (instead, you should expect a letter) and while there is some "urgency" in making a response to an IRS letter, it is because the IRS generally takes 30 days to review/update their records with information faxed to them. My taxes are current & paid.
