I won a cruise. Since I have unlimited minutes, I let the automated voice talk and talk, eventually a real person came on line and kept saying Hello? I figure this took about 3:23 (as per my phone's time info).
Why do I do this? It's like jury duty. We all get drafted, so I serve my time, because by not hanging up, I have prevented this computer from calling and bother another half-dozen people.

I have just received a call on my cell from this number today at 12:47 pm.I missed the call,so I am not sure what was a reason of their call.
It was not the first time they called me and every time I miss to answer.

Calls are made from a computer, which "spoofs" (fakes) the number you see on your display. Phone companies read a digital number that is not what shows on your display. If they did none of the above, the scams wouldn't pay off and would end! It's likely that no more than 1 or 2 in 10 report that they've been robbed out of sheer embarassment.
I find the gullibility of people simply incredulous - especially considering all the warnings and information there is about them on the internet, news items, etc. -

Where is the CRTC role and responsabilities. I cannot believe the same is happening over and over and no one is able to stop this. What is the purpose of the Do Not Call List ? can someone from the CRTC respond ....
blort replied 9/14/14, 5:32 PMI'm not from the CRTC, but these calls often originate out of the country so there's nothing the CRTC can do. The number that comes up on your phone is not the real number the call originates from. -

Missing calls from people/autocallers to whom I never provided my number is irritating; when they call but fail to leave a voicemail, this makes them untrustworthy. I missed a call from this number on Saturday, at 16:01 EST and no voicemail was left. My father, who has an entirely different mobile service provider, also missed a call from this number a few hours earlier on the same day. I cannot imagine who in this day and age actually thinks that unwanted, unauthorised calls will be met with acceptance and trust.

Okay I have to jump in here, because some of these comments are just stupid.
People who say that by answering a call from a number you don't know just encourages the scammers to keep calling, are clearly kids and don't have a real job.
If you are in any sort of sales position (not counting retail, fast food, and things alike) often get calls from clients that you don't know their number.
It could be a new client, it could be a mobile number or even a home number, but if you miss those calls then you potentially miss the sale.
Whilst I agree that the spam callers are a huge PITA, our mobile society prohibits us from being selective to the calls in which we take......and that's the hook.
So please do continue to report these numbers, and if you are in a position to not answer the calls from numbers you don't know......well awesome for you, but the rest of the working world can't afford that luxury.Smart Guy replied 12/9/14, 12:42 AMFirst, because someone doesn't understand there are many reasons why answering does not encourage anything really, for many reasons, that doesn't make them stupid, or kids, or people that don't have a real job. I would never be that judgmental of others, because then it makes me look as much like a kid as anyone I am calling names.
Second, reporting the numbers is fine, it means that people who are receiving calls from an unknown numbers can make an informed choice if they get a call from that number in the future. It doesn't restrict you in any way from answering calls that come to you whether unknown or not.
Please stop acting like you're job, your type of job is the only one of its kind, or worse that your needs are the only ones that matter. -

Got a few calls from this number recently. Never picked up. Leaves a blank voicemail after 2 rings. Most likely some sort of marketing survey or "you won a free cruise" crooks. Got my number on Ontario Do Not Call list, obviously it does not help.Or they're associated somehow with these callers who can still use numbers from Do-Not-Call database. Very disappointed :(((

Some how I got myself on a list and I'm sure they pass numbers around, sell them or are the same outfit with different scams.
They call at different times during the day and evening. They get my answering machine but leave no message. Am looking to get a "robo booter", it shuts off any calls from a computer after one ring.
I think because of the answering machine they keep trying, although once when I didn't have my glasses on I answered the call but was met with silence. Good enough to know that they had a live number. They call for a while then nothing for a month or so then it starts over. -

2014-09-22 - 289.275.6942 - Call from survey company. I answered the survey just to get to a live agent to get the name of the company so I could complain to the CRTC as I am on the DNC list. After answering the automated survey, they hung up on me.
2014-09-23 - 647.503.6790 - I spoke to a live agent. Agent #= 5930 "Jeffery Gregg". Said that I answered a survey yesterday. I asked the name of the company that called me yesterday. He said it was "Political Opinion of America.org" or "Political Survey Group" and he was following up on the call. I asked him what company he worked for. He said "Celebration Cruise Lines". I then told him i was on the DNC list and I would be filing a complaint. He said he would remove me from his call list.
I provided both calls to the CRTC as unsolicited calls to a number on the DNC list. -
