wanted to add to umc5626's post I received a call from this # at 7:30 pm...earlier today, about 12 hours earlier, Firefox crashed on my pc and I had sent out a report to presumably firefox ...it asked for my email, so that they could send me details of why firefox crashed...perhaps my phone number was hacked from my email in order that they be able to send me a call to try to sell me some type of protection from a virus or a hacked pc ...in case anyone else receives this call after reporting a crash I wanted to share this infoso that others can put two and two together
WelshManThing replied 6/26/14, 4:23 AMI like that you are savy enough to take the number and google it, but your Firefox crashing and them calling is just pure coincidence, The told me my Windows files were corrupt through a virus, I responded saying what virus.. and he made something up :/ the killer blow was when i mentioned my pc is running a Linux based OS, he responded in the only way i think possible, hung up. -

The way of this scam is that they pray on the people who know not alot about there PC, They phone up saying "Good day Sir/Madam, Our computers show you have a Virus and we need to get that fixed as soon as possible" something along them lines, I wasn't to know this was a scam first time if it wasn't for one HUGE plot twist.. Further into the conversation he stated "Your Window files are corrupt" it was here i thought i could play along as i knew he was having me on. The conversation went on for about 15-20mins as i kept asking him whats a C Drive, and how do i delete my PC, and much to my delightment he tried answering.. But there came a time when I had to go, I told the gentleman on the phone that i was playing with him this whole time and my PC didn't have a Windows OS, but was Linux based, His response was to hang up :) After doing some more looking into this, Its a scam where they require you to purchase some Software that will magically fix your PC, at a reasonable price of £40. ($69)
