According to Google support, they contact businesses to verify their operating hours on Google Maps. However, the practice of cold-calling individuals who often do not own businesses reflects poorly on Google. Robocalling random people for the sole purpose of enhancing their own service seems inappropriate. If a company wishes to update its hours on Google, it should be at their discretion, and Google spamming them with calls to improve its service could be considered spam.
