The calls by this number, (866) 379-3643, were discovered by tellow users to be impersonating American Express, and raised immediate suspicion, with scammers attempting to carry out an application verification scheme. While the callers presented themselves as AMEX representatives, closer investigation confirmed the calls were fraudulent. One recipient, who let the call go to voicemail, contacted AMEX's official customer support and verified the scam. Despite the legitimacy suggested by the 866 number, this was clearly a phishing attempt aimed at gathering sensitive personal information, reinforcing the importance of verifying through official channels before engaging.
