Defender Grumpy reported Microsoft fake with the number ‎42 as Harassment calls

    5/29/17, 7:28 AM

As these criminals get more sophisticated it becomes increasingly difficult to report them. One of their tactics is to use "Withheld" numbers. Today it has happened three times (so far). The first call did not get answered because I was of of the room. When the second came I knew who was calling because of the familiar crackling sounds, so I shouted "Hello" as loudly as possible to try to disturb the caller's hearing and add to the bad day I wanted to give him/her. After more crackling the foreign-sounding caller said he was from Microsoft, wanting to tell me about the problems that he said had been detected on my computer. "Carry on," I kept telling him, until he wanted to know what I had connected to my computer. At this point I said he might not be from Microsoft so I needed his number so I could check. I wrote down the number he gave, 08000488096. He was obviously prepared for this and invited me to call back for verification. Knowing this was another trap, and that calling the number would be highly dangerous, I told him at this point that, knowing he was a crook, I had been deliberately trying to waste his time because he was wasting mine. I suggested that at this point it would be a good idea for him to ring off. He tried again, but when I again suggested he ought to ring off he did so. I had at least wasted 2 minutes 20 seconds of his time. Afterwards I looked up the number he had given, to be informed that calling such numbers would indeed be dangerous. For at least four days I have repeatedly had similar calls. All the numbers provided have been fake, and all easily identifiable because of crackling sounds followed by foreign accents.

unforgiving of scammers reported unknown with the number ‎900142 as Cost trap

This phoney Microsoft computer virus scam continues in Florida. We get these calls daily on our cell phones and have to block them out. Sure wish the FTC would get off their collective asses and enforce the Do Not call list. Obama is too busy using the DOJ, FBI and IRS to go after his political foes and caving to Iran to enforce any US laws. This means there's a green light for these spammers and thieves to continue on without any fear of prosecution. We need real change before we turn into a third world shithole.

The caller said he was from Microsoft and my computer is broken. I asked how he could know that and because he said that he will receive error messages. I wanted to know what is to be broken and he "You do not understand anyway." This is a joke, but ok. He said that I should select a page in the browser and would follow his instructions. However, the page was not Microsoft, so I asked why this site does not look serious. He asked me if he should help me now or I could handle alone with my garbage. Then he called me, I felt it was huge impudence and have launched without a word. These scammers do not give themselves even more trouble.

I also received a phone call from someone called Ray Jordan. Caller ID was 900-142. He mentioned that there has been some problem with someone trying to hack into my computer. He would call back when I was on my computer. In the meantime I Googled 900-142 and came up as a scam. There were quite a few people who were duped into believing this call was legitimate. He called back about two hours later and I told him that I wanted to make sure that he was legitimate, so I asked him if I could call him back to verify who he was. He said to call (818) 666-4018, ext 4788. So I did. When someone answered I asked for extension 4788. He said he was with another customer and if he could help. I asked him, what was the other man's name and he said Ray Martin, and Ray would call me back. A minute later Ray called and I told him what the other man said about his name and his reply was that there was another Ray in the building. I then told him that I Googled 900142 and that it was a scam, he hung up.
