Rebecca Jones says she's with the "processing department" and has fantastic news about repayment options for student loans. Red flags: we don't have student loans, she didn't address us by name and didn't give the name of the organization she's with.
tadpolesoup replied 9/17/19, 7:51 PMOn many of these types of calls the voice of the caller sounds perfectly normal and honest (it's not a computer-generated voice) which makes me wonder if it is a voice actor and whether a voice actor would knowingly do work for a fraudulent entity. -

Did anyone receive a call from this number? I'm just getting voicemails. No calls. I was advised by my student loan office that may be another bank attempting to offer a lower interest rate for students or graduates with existing loans, but it is likely that they have hidden fees associated with their service.

When you call the number back and get to a person, they will ask you for your DOB and email address. You will get a 6 digit code emailed to you and then they want it. That is so they can access your FSA ID and have access to your info. Fortunately, only the last 4-digits of your SSN is there but if you gave them this info, log into your FSA account, change your password and deactivate your account if you have completed school. That way they cannot make decisions assuming your identity. Also, reach out to the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) and let them know about the issues and they can advise you as well.

Rebecca (a voice mail) told me my student loan was overdue and if I did not make a payment right away I could be fined and maybe even sent to jail. I am 84 years old and have never had a student loan even when I was young This is a fraud and I do not appreciate trying to be tricked by some machine. They need to be investigated for trying to take money from people who are not guilty of owing this dept.

Called about my federal student loan. Said there are new options for me. Gave me a direct line and first two digits of a reference number then cut out. I looked up the direct line and it was a lot of people saying this is a scam.

As with the other calls, "Rebecca Jones" is calling to offer repayment options for my student loads. My loans are with the federal government and the government does not make phone calls to handle their business. I have received calls from "Rebecca Jones" before, from other numbers, and they have been blocked.

Rebecca Jones with the Processing Department. If this was real she would have mentioned what processing department and my name in the phone call. She did not do either of those things. The urgency of calling her back ASAP today is a red flag.

These a scam call since federal student loans send a statement of the account specifying the value to be paid and the exact date. They never make a call for payment arrangements. Also, if you still in College your not need to start a made any payments.
Besides, if you have finished University, you have a grace period (six months), to start your payments and they will send you the account statement. On the other hand, if you are still at the University, you do not have to start making any payments while you are studying. Be careful with this calls.
