   US Federal Agent reported Unknown Phisher with the number ‎0015177899321 as Cost trap

   Caller said that my 'Windows computer' has been sending them error messages for two weeks. Caller could not tell me which computer, and asked me to log on to each computer I have to check manually to see which one it was. I asked for a security code so that I could check myself, and he rambled off a 16 digit/letter code and refused to repeat it and demanded access before 'anything worse happened'. I asked him if he seriously wanted me to access my Federally secured computer for this, and he said it's important to check each computer.
   When confronted, he did not deny that my 'federal server' says that he's calling from out of the country (India) and bounced through VOIP through Jackson, MI. He again insisted I access their website without indicating which computer has this issue. I described his scam: Going to their website, downloading their 'malware tracker', which will indicate I have malware, downloading their 'cleaner', which will download actual malware giving them keystroke access to my computer. He got frustrated. I asked if he was aware he had called a Federal Agent, and he hung up immediately.
   I called this number back immediately, and the number is disconnected.
   (For clarity, while I have some clearance levels, I am not myself a Federal Agent; all of this information is available through good ol' Google. While I am aware it is a crime to impersonate an agent, I never gave my name and I'm PRETTY SURE it's a bigger crime to put a keystroke reader on thousands of computers, and a massive phishing ring with this scam was busted last month in India that had gotten over $1 million out of people.)

   UK recipient reported BT with the number ‎5177899321 as Cost trap

   I was called on this number by a foreign man (sounded Indian/Asian) with urgency in voice claiming to be from British Telecom telling me that my 'router' was sending many error messages to the 'BT server'. I work in IT so felt this call was unlikely. I asked him what MY name was and the call went dead. Not trustworthy - suspect a precursor to asking to remotely access my home network.

   It was asking for access. Same number just called me, asked for access to 'whatever computer I'm sitting at', didn't care that I'm at my Federally secured computer.
