I saw I had a voicemail, here is the content: "Hi this is Linda we would like to discuss solutions regarding important business matters. Please call us back today at 1-866-953-7906, thank you."
Knowing I was not calling the real Capital One Bank, Credit Card Company, Auto Finance, Mortgage, or Wealth Management, I called in blocking my number with *67 to see what they would ask for.
Immediately they wanted my full 16 digit credit card number but it was just as easy to use my FULL social (yeh right).
I said, before we start, can you repeat for me on a recorded line, the Name and Physical Address of the business you call from?
A long pause and I hear typing going on, then they come back and again claim Capital One with a P.O. Box which was the right address but it was obvious she looked it up and secondly, it wasn't a physical address.
Normally I would ask if I had answered the call before it went to VM, ‘What is the name and address of the debtor you’re trying to reach?’
Legitimate debt collectors know who they are trying to reach and should have no issue disclosing this information. On the other hand, a fake debt collector will rarely be able to provide you with an answer to this one, and if they do, the answer may sound suspicious.
Instead I asked her if she worked in operations or sales.
It's a trick question for Customer Service Credit Card departments, because often, they do both but the answer should have been "You reached the Customer Service Number" what she said was, "um, like what do you mean?
I said I'm sorry I just have one more question, as a former Cap 1 AVP, who is the CEO these days? (all information I googled before calling).
her reply...oh that is a um Mr. FairbankS. I repeated, Mr. Fairbanks with a S at the end and she confirmed yes.
The right answer is Richard Fairbank.
By the way the number that showed up on my caller ID was 800-955-6600 which is actually the Collections Team at Capital One, but the number I was told to call was 1-866-953-7906.
Stay on alert, give them nothing but take from them, everything! -

Gotten 2 calls back to back within 15 minutes of each other. Called the first one back and they wanted all of my info, did not give to them.. I said I would have call the real HSBC to know if theý realy were calling people and they hung up
